Today was my first day working with Jason in the estate houses. The estate houses are the oldest green houses on the property and are attached to the conservatory, with the public able to walk through two. Originally the glasshouses produced fruit, vegetables and cut flowers for the Du Pont household. Now the are production houses and deal with a variety of crops, with the different sections of indoors (ferns, orchids etc) having their own houses. At the moment, Jason is starting to get into Chrysanthemum production for the festival in October.
Today we staked the pots of mums. While they're not big yet, the will be. Staking provides support and keeps the plants neat.
After lunch we pinched some lavender. They aren't due until September so we gave them quite a hard pinch.
